Up-To-Date News on the NovaPlus / Best Western Two-Way Interface

MSI is committed to the Nova Plus product now and for the long haul!

The one year anniversary of Best Western's certification of the Two-Way interface is fast approaching, and it is time to celebrate the successes of the past year and congratulate the 100+ properties currently using Nova Plus with the Two-Way interface. Many of these customers have contacted us to share their stories of success and enthusiasm for the new product. We’re delighted to hear that these Best Western members have already reaped the benefit of enhancements, such as improved ease-of-use and increased revenue management capabilities.

The Nova Plus product has proven to be a robust and popular choice for Best Western properties, and, to date, MSI has demonstrated our commitment to continuing improvements and customer satisfaction through delivery of Gold Crown Club enhancements and other initiatives important to Best Western members. But, there’s much more to come for this product: Nova Plus has been architected in such a way that we can continue to enhance the product and offer it on Microsoft platforms far into the future. Further, in support of Visa’s CISP initiative, MSI is proceeding with a comprehensive PABP audit that will be completed in advance of the October 2008 deadline.

MSI purchased Nova Plus because we believed in the potential of the product and the additional benefits we could deliver to Best Western members. Today, boasting an average of eight members upgrading to the Two-Way interface each week, the Nova Plus product has more momentum than ever before, and is achieving the vision that Best Western members conceived for the product over ten years ago.

We are pleased to share the attached list of Best Western members who have volunteered to answer any questions you may have about the Nova Plus Two-Way interface and upgrade process. If you are evaluating the Two-Way interface, we encourage you to use this strong support group of Nova Plus users who have installed the product and generously offered to assist their fellow members.

We have been operating on the so called one and a half way interface for many years. We were extremely frustrated by it and eagerly awaited the arrival of the two way interface. When MSI took over responsibility of the NOVA Plus system we noted an immediate improvement in speed and quality of service. This gave us great confidence in the fact that MSI was going to proceed with the development of a NOVA Two way PMS.

We were not disappointed. The installation was on time and within the anticipated parameters. As usual there were some programming that took longer then anticipated but MSI personnel stayed right with it and minimized any inconvenience.

Now after over two weeks of operation we have not experienced any problems and have stayed in balance. We are extremely pleased with the two way NOVA PMS and the service and support they provide.

Version 3.00.21 of the Nova Plus system is now in production for Best Western hotels.
This new version tightens up both the implementation and the Two Way interface. Changes include automatically changing the profile name to reflect a name change, and correcting an error that occurred for names that included an apostrophe or single quote. In addition, the system validates the length of the GCC number and insures that the first six characters are valid, which will greatly reduce some of the processing errors. Swipe capability for GCC cards has also been added. MSI’s efforts to improve this product continues as we develop version 3.01, which highlights new messages for the Two-Way interface to Best Western, including a guest lookup feature that will allow a hotel user to instantly access the profile stored at Best Western by a number of variables, including the Gold Crown number or name of the guest. This is a huge guest service benefit to the guests who stay at Best Western sites and will save a lot of time for the hotel users as well. Instant enrollment will allow a front desk person to have the ability to enroll a new member on the spot, which will help to grow the loyalty based customers staying at Best Western properties worldwide.

I wish to take this time to thank you for the easy transition to the New Two-Way Interface for the Nova Plus. Taking the position as a beta site has been a very trying situation in the past. This was of great concern to all of us. As property owners, we worry about our guest history.

It is obvious that MSI did a very good job at listening to the property owners. You have seemed to address all of our issues. As days go by, you have solved any concerns that I have had. This is truly a system built for Best Western Properties. I am looking forward to any new enhancements that may come out in the near future.

I have enjoyed being a test property. This has been the easiest upgrade we have ever had.

Regarding the installation process and functionality of the two-way software, I was thrilled to experience that the installers and the process did not let down all the hype that we have been anticipating for this install. The trainer was as knowledgeable as he was personable. He worked through major and minor issues without loosing my confidence. In my mind, I had visualized the “GO LIVE” date as a property wide Y2K bug, and just like the latter, there was nothing to worry about. The upgrade from 1.5 to 2-way was extremely user-friendly for the property revenue management team. Before, our internal revenue manager was uneasy about leaving for the weekend to come back and find that a misallocation had oversold the hotel by a dozen rooms. Now following the simple processes of rates and allocations lets us rest easy.

As part of the Best Western certification, MSI has successfully completed three out of four BETA installations of the Two-Way interface. These Beta sites have exceeded even MSI’s high expectations for success, and have allowed NovaPlus to be fast tracked through the certification sites as very few changes have been required as a result of the live environment. A team of professionals is being trained to be ready to meet the demand for installation of this long awaited interface. The rollout of the new interface will begin in April and early entry sites will have the best chance of having the interface in place and increasing RevPAR before high season.

To Whom It May Concern:

The purpose of this letter is to thank MSI in their continuing development of the two-way interface with Nova Plus.

We are the first BETA property for the Nova Plus two-way interface, and I can say that the install, for being the first “live” property to receive it, went very well. As you can imagine being the first, we did run into some “challenges” but the install crew were here and fixed anything in a timely manner. Allen, Bryan, Vince, and Jenny were very helpful, professional, willing to listen, and eager to fix any problem that came up.

I just want to say thank you to MSI for continuing with the development and distribution and the Nova Plus two-way. I realize you could have bought the program to obtain a list of names to sell your other products. I thank you for not pursuing this avenue and sticking with Nova Plus. As a property manager having no need to train employees in a whole new system, the cost savings in the program itself, is a huge plus, not to mention the cost savings for the hotel.

With NovaPlus the group block and the group allocations can be manipulated separately. For properties that want to use a wash factor so that they aren't holding group rooms that they are sure are not going to be booked, this can be an effective yield tool.

Everyone makes mistakes, so the NovaPlus error log makes it easy to resend a message directly from the log when the issue is corrected. In addition the NovaPlus dashboard records the status of interface, so you'll know instantly if messages are waiting to send to host.

MSI is pleased to announce that certification is beginning today, November 6. This six-week process is designed to insure that the ways in which BW members will be using the system will be covered by the interface. Any issues that arise in this testing, especially involving inventory, between the local system and BW Member Web will be analyzed and tightened up. The most critical functionality to look at for a 2-way interface to CRS is how versatile, user friendly, and functional the system is for building rate strategies. In NovaPlus a user is allowed to make key changes for rate groups or rate types by season (from and to dates) on a single screen. A picture says a thousand words, this screen gives you an important tool to control your inventory!

In NovaPlus, Rate Tiers are used to define rates that can be applied to multiple rate codes, making rate updates easy. In NovaPlus the Rooms Allocation screen contains all the information necessary to make a decision about allocating a block for a rate including Inventory, Rooms Allocated, Rooms Sold, Remaining Allocation and Available Rooms. If you want to monitor a rate code that represents a deep discount, for example, this screen not only allows you to see where you stand, but lets you make the change right there! In the fast paced world of hotel operations, where interruptions are inevitable be sure that your PM system puts ease of use first – don’t settle for hunting inventory information to enter elsewhere!

Discount rates are very versatile in NovaPlus, discounts can be applied using any rate as the base rate and you can have a Nova Plus discount rate update Member Web with actual amounts, so you can administrate discounts from your PMS to Member Web. You can even set up a discount as a dollar amount, instead of a percentage. These features are popular on Member Web for selling hotel rooms as advantageously as possible, you’ll be able to persist these great strategies across the board with the NovaPlus 2 way interface!

The Best Western 2 way interface allows rate, allocation and restriction updates to existing rate plans. The original rate plan template is built by your hotel in conjunction with the BW Revenue Management team, including what rates are offered and what room types exist. The NovaPlus interface includes a utility that allows you to automatically compare the rate plans and room types you are offering in your PMS with what is offered in CRS making it easy to audit this information. You’ll find this tool invaluable for use in determining when changes are made in Member Web, allowing you to maximize your inventory. As an added benefit, having an easy way to insure the reservations you make at your property are updated in Member Web without error!

NovaPlus has a great feature for Groups! Group shoulder dates in a two way environment can be tricky as a hotel usually wants to offer a guest the opportunity to stay before and after a group conference, usually at different rates and with different rate codes. The NovaPlus allows this functionality using a shoulder date field in the group. Using multi segment reservations the system automatically creates the messages to host that will split the reservation on the host side so that the inventory within the group is protected and the rate and market segments quoted remain intact. In order to protect the reservation status in a system that does not have this shoulder date functionality the hotel would have to check the guest out and check them back in on the group arrival date, or change the arrival and departure dates on groups to allow the guest to use the group code for the length of their stay.

This ease of use feature allows the hotel to service the guest and to protect the integrity of the resulting market segment reports.

MSI’s development group is deep in unit testing of the NovaPlus Two Way interface to Best Western. NovaPlus’s unique design relationship with Best Western is a huge advantage for this product, offering features that no other PMS can. One of these is the Revenue Management “Quick Update” functionality, a completely interactive piece that allows the user a calendar view of current status and the ability to change the allocations, restrictions and rate tiers from the same screen! We heard loud and clear from our 1.5 NovaPlus Users how critical this functionality has been to the their bottom line, this offers a more user friendly layout. This functionality will be available to all NovaPlus Users upon installation of the Two Way interface.

Try the “Click For Legend” feature to easily access a map of the information on the screen. With Nova Plus you won’t have to hunt for ways to increase your revenue, the system will make these decisions easy to implement!
